Tipping Guidelines - Rural Midwest « Thread Started on Dec 24, 2004, 5:11am »
Here is what I expect for tips as a bartender in the Rural Midwest...small town, relatively upscale area, bar/restaurant. Follow these rules and I'll treat you soooo nice!
I don't think I'm expecting too much by wanting these amounts.
Happy hour:
1 drink: .50 to $1
By the hour: $2 for every hour you sit there.
(Happy hour regulars are usually pretty cheap, but since most are there 5 days a week it's forgiveable)
Busy nights:
Tip every time you come up to the bar.
$1.00 for 1-2 drinks, .50 for each additional drink
If you order something that is time consuming (Bloody Mary, frozen drinks, a round of mixed shots), I would expect a little more than the usual.
(I make AWESOME Bloodies.)
If you eat at the bar: The standard 15-20% is fine. However, if I run my ass off for you please make the tip commensurate.
